ISO PUBLIC PROTECTION CLASSIFICATION

ISO Fire Protection Rating

The Insurance Services Office (ISO) Fire Protection Rating evaluates the ability of a community’s fire protection services to respond to and manage fire emergencies. The evaluation considers factors such as emergency communications, fire department staffing and equipment, training, and the availability of an adequate water supply.

ISO ratings range from Class 1 (best) to Class 10 (no recognized fire protection). A lower ISO classification reflects stronger fire protection capabilities and may positively impact property insurance rates for residents and businesses within the district.

Within Richmond Township Fire Protection District, ISO classifications are determined by a property’s proximity to a fire station and a fire hydrant:

  • Class 4 – Properties located within 5 road miles of a fire station and within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant
  • Class 6 – Properties located within 5 road miles of a fire station and more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant
  • Class 10 – Properties located more than 5 road miles from a fire station

Richmond Township Fire Protection District remains committed to maintaining and improving fire protection services to support the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors.
